Steel Magnolias is a comedy-drama centering around the friendship of six women who gather at Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana to talk, gossip, needle, criticize, laugh, and cry with each other. There is wise-cracking Truvy, salon owner; her eager new assistant Annelle; Ouiser, the town’s rich curmudgeon; Miss Clairee, an eccentric millionaire with a raging sweet tooth; M’Lynn, the local social leader; and her daughter Shelby, soon to marry a “good ole boy.” Both hilarious and touching, the play lets you share the joy and pain of these “steel magnolias,” who are flowery on the outside but strong as steel on the inside in order to survive the challenges life sends their way.
